Off-Grid Homesteading: How It All Began
Posted: Apr 23 2014
This was the homestead that started it all.
We left the city for the countryside, armed with books by Scott & Helen Nearing, Fukuoka, and Norman Walker. We wanted to grow our own organic foods year-round and live off the grid on wind and solar power, away from all the pollution and stress of the big cities.
We decided on Denman Island, a small rural island of 500 families in the Strait of Geogia on a whim visit. We came in August; it was gorgeous: sunny and warm; we fell in love, and we haven't left since.
That was 16 years ago.
Since then, we have started Rawganique.com and PureClothes.com in addition to pursuing our passion for growing both traditional and exotic vegetables, fruits, and flowers. We tend to dogs, cats, and rescued ducks, chickens, and geese. And we get to do what we love, which is connect with eco-minded folks around the world and produce organic clothing and home products that are as pure as possible.
